High Desert inmate dies at hospital in northwest Las Vegas Valley

High Desert State Prison inmate Rodrigo Macias, 43, died Thursday at Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center in the northwest Las Vegas Valley, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. The department said it had requested an autopsy. Macias was serving a sentence of 36 to 96 months at High Desert for possession of a stolen recognition paper and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. He entered NDOC custody on February 12, 2024, after being transferred from Clark County.
