Republicans in the U.S. House are looking to take a victory lap in Las Vegas July 25 to tout the passage of President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” with a field hearing, according to a release from U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., the chairperson of the House Ways & Means Committee.

The 10 a.m. hearing at YESCO will include testimony from “invited witnesses,” and will accept written comments to be entered into the record. Field hearings are Congressional hearings held outside Washington.

Republicans will likely highlight the bill’s “no tax on tips” provision, which President Donald Trump said originated from a conversation with a Las Vegas waitress. The reconciliation bill’s version of the policy caps deductions at $25,000 and will last for four years.

Democrats have criticized the limit and timeframe, noting that the bill makes Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, which most benefited wealthy Americans, permanent. The Ways and Means Committee in February described the cuts as a “boon” for the working class, however.

Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., told the Sun in a statement that Las Vegas is the “last place” Republicans should be celebrating the massive piece of legislation. Horsford highlighted its slashes to healthcare — which could kick around 100,000 Nevadans off Medicaid coverage due to work requirements, according to a state estimate obtained by the Nevada Independent—and clean energy.

“My constituents are already feeling the impact of Trump’s failed policies — tourism is down, and costs are up from his tariffs,” Horsford said. “When Republicans come to sell this Big Ugly Law here next week, our community will be united in telling them their lies are not welcome.”
