Las Vegas business-booster group changes name

The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance announced Friday that it is now the Las Vegas Regional Economic Partnership. The name change completes an 'identity reset' called for by the group's strategic plan adopted in June by its board.

According to a news release, the group's mission, partners and services continue without interruption. Danielle Casey, president and CEO of the organization, said the new name tells a site selector, chief executive, elected official or community member 'exactly who we are and who we represent.'

Casey took the helm of the group last year and has set out to diversify the employer base in Southern Nevada, a casino-heavy region. The group's 32-page strategic plan aims to reduce the area's dependence on tourism by boosting higher-wage sectors.

The plan notes that Southern Nevada's economy remains heavily concentrated in leisure and hospitality, leaving the region vulnerable to economic disruption and limiting long-term wage growth and resilience. Around 25 percent of Las Vegas-area employees work in leisure and hospitality, the highest share of any industry locally.
