SinCity Press Las Vegas judge set to sentence man who killed Metro officer in 2022 September 28, 2026 - 9:29 am Tyson Hampton, 28, pleaded guilty but mentally ill in May to dozens of counts, including murder, attempted execution and discharging a firearm from within a structure, in the killing of Metropolitan Police Department Officer Truong Thai. Hampton had faced a possible death sentence, but prosecutors agreed not to pursue capital punishment as part of the plea agreement. Officer Thai was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call in 2022. A Clark County District Court judge is scheduled to impose Hampton’s sentence on Monday.
