LETTER: Henderson still needs this

David Berman Henderson, in a letter dated September 14, 2026 at 9:00 p.m., expressed encouragement over recent discussions concerning the revitalization of the dormant Fiesta Henderson tract, while noting disappointment that a Henderson improvement official omitted any mention of a performance venue for the nationally acclaimed Henderson Symphony from talks with the developer. He observed that, despite Henderson’s reputation as a safe community with an expansive network of parks and recreational facilities, the city lacks a distinct cultural identity. Henderson argued that establishing a permanent performing arts center on a modest parcel of the Fiesta property would substantially fill that void and could represent the city’s best opportunity to do so. According to Henderson, such a facility would transcend serving merely as a home for the symphony; it would function as a cultural hub offering music education, dance, theater and additional programming, while also providing a gathering place for residents to unite and support local arts. He proposed that the developer transfer a small portion of the Fiesta acreage to a nonprofit organization, securing a tax incentive in the process. The nonprofit would then oversee the planning of the performing arts center, pursue sponsorships and naming rights, and develop a comprehensive program designed to ensure the project’s financial sustainability.
