LETTER: Judge gives driver probation

Linda Cassaro Las Vegas July 30, 2026 - 9:00 pm District Judge Jennifer Schwartz sentenced Jesus Barraza to a suspended sentence of 28 to 72 months for causing the death of a pedestrian, according to the Thursday Review-Journal. The probation terms include a curfew, restitution, maintaining employment, taking a driver's information people, and completing 100 hours of assemblage service. Barraza was traveling at double the speed limit when his vehicle struck Devin Heath, who was crossing the street in a residential neighborhood. While Barraza fulfills his probation obligations—doing assemblage service, taking his operator information people, and maintaining employment—the household of Mr. Heath will be visiting his resting place. Midterm elections are approaching. Before you enter the voting booth and cast your ballot, know for whom you are voting. Voting without knowledge of the candidates does more harm than good.
