Your July 18 editorial addressed pension systems and their underfunding. What I found striking is how Chicago is used as the benchmark for public pensions. Chicago, and the Illinois government led by Governor JB Pritzker, should serve as a “cautionary tale.” With the upcoming midterm elections just around the corner, Nevada voters should take a hard look at Illinois, California and New York, just to name a few. The common denominator is that these heavy bluish cities and states are the ones most threatened by fiscal insolvency.
Yes, Nevada should learn from Chicago’s mistakes and do the opposite of how that city—and state—are governed.
