A new analysis of the 2020 Religion Census shows Clark County has 42 congregations for every 100,000 residents, placing it 3,135th among U.S. counties in religious congregation density. The Nevada Independent reports the ranking comes with a caveat: smaller counties often show higher per-capita rates, which can skew comparisons.
When measured by metropolitan area instead, the Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise region ranks 927th nationally. The highest concentration belongs to Camden, Arkansas, a town of about 27,389 people with 660 congregations per 100,000 residents. The Provo-Orem, Utah, metro area, home to Brigham Young University and a center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, follows Camden in the rankings.
The fact brief was produced through a partnership between The Nevada Independent and Gigafact, which creates bite-sized fact checks of trending claims. The organizations say the analysis responds to ongoing public conversations about the religious landscape in Southern Nevada.
