Phillip Reymundo’s long touchdown pass to Evan Abasto in the final minute Friday night lifted the Sierra Vista football team to a 23-16 win over Desert Oasis.

Sierra Vista trailed 16-8 entering the fourth quarter but scored 14 unanswered points to close the game.

“Desert Oasis came out and kicked our butts in the first half,” Sierra Vista coach Thomas Raybon said. “Our kids played hard; they fought until the end.”

Caleb Green rushed for 132 yards and scored on a 75-yard touchdown run.

Mafua Matthews-Mafua had double-digit tackles to go along with an interception in the final seconds to secure the win.

“We can use this momentum going into league play,” Raybon said. “We have six league games, and they are all going to be tough.”
