Nevada senators press bill to protect immigrants at sensitive locations

Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., and Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., are supporting a bill that would prevent immigration raids at “sensitive areas” such as schools, hospitals and places of worship.

That already was the policy at Immigration and Customs Enforcement for over a decade until President Donald Trump removed the protection when taking office last month.

Rosen on Feb. 6 helped introduce the “Protecting Sensitive Locations Act,” her office said today.

“Nevada families who contribute to our state and our economy every day deserve to have peace of mind when they’re attending church, visiting a hospital, or sending their kids to school,” Rosen said in a statement.

The new administration has widely publicized its immigration enforcement in hopes that it will cause undocumented immigrants in the country to “self-deport.”

“Name another agency — another law enforcement agency — that’s held to those type of requirements, that they can’t walk into a school or doctor’s office or a medical campus,” Tom Homan, Trump’s “border czar,” told ABC after the policy was changed.
