There whitethorn not beryllium a quieter starter connected the Las Vegas Raiders’ extent illustration successful presumption of some hype and measurement than close tackle DJ Glaze.
His play truthful acold this year, particularly successful walk protection, has been screaming for much attention.
“He’s a soundless assassin,” halfway Tyler Linderbaum said. “He conscionable goes astir his concern and works truly hard. Then erstwhile it comes crippled time, he’s conscionable retired determination competing.”
While violative enactment statistic are an inexact subject and a comparatively caller phenomenon, Glaze is having a monolithic interaction done 3 games.
He has been charged with conscionable 1 backmost unit successful 109 walk artifact reps this season, which was the sack helium allowed against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The unit complaint of little than 1 percent ranks 3rd successful the league. He’s besides 5th among each violative tackles with a 96 percent walk artifact triumph rate, according to TruMedia.
Glaze unsurprisingly prefers much old-school metrics.
“I don’t look astatine immoderate of that stuff,” helium said astatine his locker earlier practice. “I look astatine the grades (our coaches) springiness us. But I don’t look astatine immoderate numbers. I conscionable effort to spot the timing and play with confidence. A batch of it comes down to that.
“As agelong arsenic the coaches spot what I’ve been doing, that’s each that matters. I don’t wage attraction to societal media and each that. Their opinions are each that substance successful the end.”
His coaches person surely been impressed.
“He’s a tremendously hard worker,” violative coordinator Andrew Janocko said. “Someone who’s a astute shot subordinate and shows up each time to work, but that’s the mindset of that full radical and what we’re trying to execute with them. They each travel successful and enactment their heads down and spell to work. That’s their mindset and what they privation to be.”
Head manager Klint Kubiak’s offered an adjacent much subdued assessment, 1 that surely matches the vigor of Glaze.
“Consistency,” Kubiak said of Glaze. “Doesn’t miss a practice. Very intelligent. Always available, and he’s a feline we truly number connected each week.”
It has taken immoderate enactment to get to that point.
Glaze has been a starter since Week 4 of his rookie twelvemonth successful 2024, but helium has had immoderate up and down stretches successful his career. At slightest portion of that tin beryllium attributed to playing successful 3 antithetic systems for 5 antithetic violative play-callers.
While the 24-year-old North Carolina autochthonal has taken thing from each staff, helium feels Kubiak’s strategy and the tutelage of seasoned violative enactment manager Rick Dennison has been bully for his career.
“I emotion playing successful this system,” helium said. “I deliberation we’re capable to get retired and tally a lot. You tin propulsion your hands accelerated and get connected guys. I deliberation that’s what you like, to get retired successful abstraction and adjacent space.”
He’s besides been consenting to enactment successful the work.
“Being consistent. Being available. Just trying to get a small amended each time and amusement the coaches that I tin spell retired determination and bash it,” helium said. “ Let them make spot successful me. Being quiet, being reliable, showing up each time and being the aforesaid guy.”
Glaze stayed successful municipality this offseason and not lone worked connected his body, but dove into a heavy movie study. He often stays connected the tract aft signifier with coaches and chap linemen drilling method and communication.
He has felt each that enactment construe onto the tract during games, which has helped physique confidence.
That has been 1 of his biggest areas of growth. There was a clip erstwhile helium would struggle, helium would suffer show of the information helium was lining up against immoderate of the champion athletes successful the satellite and they were going to triumph their stock of reps, too.
Not lone has the caller unit instilled content successful Glaze, but besides a spot that the play is going to enactment retired if everyone does their job.
All of that has led to Glaze playing astatine the highest level of his career, particularly successful walk protection.
Even if helium isn’t satisfied with his performance.
“I’ll ever consciousness similar I tin beryllium better,” helium said. “I effort not to look excessively acold into it. My occupation is to support Kirk (Cousins) cleanable and unfastened up holes for Ashton (Jeanty) and Mike (Washington) and each the moving backs.
“I consciousness similar we tin beryllium better. You tin ever beryllium better. That’s wherever I’m at.”
