Raiders to be without backup quarterback on Sunday

Quarterback Aidan O’Connell will not play Sunday when the Las Vegas Raiders travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Rookie Fernando Mendoza will again serve as the No. 2 backup behind Kirk Cousins. O’Connell, who acted as the emergency No. 3 quarterback last week, missed the final two practices of the week for personal reasons and was listed as questionable, but the team downgraded his status to out on Saturday. Coach Klint Kubiak said on Friday that he did not expect O’Connell to be with the team, though he did not elaborate beyond citing a personal matter.
