Raiders training camp preview: Running backs and pass catchers
The Las Vegas Raiders bucked modern trends by selecting a tight end and a running back in the first round of consecutive drafts.
While analysts had anticipated criticism based on the resulting records, the Raiders have assembled a solid foundation of talent to work with, choosing a more traditional path by drafting a running back with the No. 1 overall pick.
Brock Bowers could emerge as the team’s top tight end when healthy, while running back Ashton Jeanty flashed ability in the limited opportunities the offense created for him last season.
Both players should have a chance to increase their production with a new scheme and an improved supporting cast.
However, they enter training camp, which intensifies on Wednesday, aware they will still need some assistance.
The Review-Journal will break down the opening of the league by examining a different position group each day, beginning with the running backs and pass catchers.
