Strong winds trigger dust advisory for Las Vegas Valley

Clark County’s Environment & Sustainability Division of Air Quality announced a dust advisory for Thursday morning, set to expire at midnight. Intermittent winds are expected between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., with gusts reaching 40 mph, prompting concerns about airborne dust.

The advisory comes as Thursday’s high temperature is forecast at 78 °F, and the rest of the week is expected to be dry, calm, and cooler than normal, with highs near 80 °F and lows in the 50s. Dust in the air is classified as particulate matter (PM), which can aggravate respiratory conditions.

Health officials advise people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children to stay indoors as much as possible, limit outdoor exertion, run air conditioners in homes and vehicles to filter particulates, and replace dirty indoor air filters. Off‑road vehicles should only be used in approved areas outside the urban valley.

Residents can report excessive dust from construction sites, vacant lots, or facilities by calling the county’s dust‑complaint hotline at 702‑385‑DUST (3878).
