Liberty RB Ezra Sanelivi is fully healthy this year after missing last year's state playoffs due to a foot injury. He watched Liberty lose to Arbor View in the Open Division state semifinal on its home field last November, saying it 'hurt not being able to contribute to my team' and that he 'still has that bitter feeling from last year.'
This season, Sanelivi is leading a balanced Liberty offense that has rolled past teams with both its passing and running game. He has rushed for 12 touchdowns on 5.7 yards per carry this year and has 482 rushing yards in eight games. Liberty coach Rich Muraco called him 'the complete back,' noting his reliability, ability to pick up blitzes, run hard, gain tough yards, and catch out of the backfield.
Sanelivi said the loss to Arbor View last year 'is going to play a big role in how we practice and prepare for this game,' adding it's 'putting that chip on our shoulder.' He committed to BYU in the spring, choosing the Cougars over other power conference schools. Liberty (6-2), the Division I East League champion, hosts Centennial (5-3), the West League’s No. 2 seed, at 7 p.m. Friday in a crossover game for the in-season Superintendents Cup tournament.
