The president named his national intelligence chief as the taskforce's head as worries over AI grow.

President Donald Trump announced the creation of a 'Super Intelligence Force' to oversee artificial intelligence policy, saying the unit will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. In a Sunday post, Trump wrote, "The Super Intelligence Force will coordinate the Federal Government's engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies." The task force also includes Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor, who will report directly to the president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Trump said last week that he would set up a committee to oversee AI safety after top tech bosses signed what he described as a "morally binding" pact to modulate the technology. He added that the Super Intelligence Force will work to guarantee that the United States continues to lead in the technology's improvement while coordinating governmental outreach to the public. The announcement follows increasing pressure from prominent industry figures, including executives of OpenAI and Anthropic, to tighten regulation of the technology. In an interview published on 4 October, OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman told Politico's technology‑focused newsletter Decoded, "The satellite should judge immoderate atrocious things happening for the benefits of this ‌technology and radical having the agency." Altman argued that the benefits of AI warrant accepting some of its risks and that the technology should remain accessible to the public. Trump has dismissed calls for stronger oversight and mostly left it to AI companies to modulate themselves. The pact signed on 29 September includes the signatures of executives from top tech firms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX and Google.
