UNLV basketball’s Tyrin Jones was named Mountain West Conference’s Freshman of the Week, the university announced today, following a standout performance in the’ Rebels’ league opener.
Jones scored a career-high 18 points in UNLV’s 84-72 victory over Fresno State on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center, shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
The Las Vegas native, who prepped at Layton Christian Academy in Utah, also contributed five rebounds, three blocks, three assists and a steal while logging more than 38 minutes.
UNLV will close its non-conference schedule 7 p.m. Monday against La Sierra University, a NAIA program out of Riverside, Calif.
