UNLV unveils throwback helmet honoring 1976 Rebels

UNLV unveiled a throwback helmet honoring the 1976 Rebels during Monday night’s Athletics Inaugural Governor’s Dinner & Auction at Allegiant Stadium. The helmet is set to make its debut in the homecoming game against North Dakota State on Oct. 10. The design features an achromatic ammunition and a reddish facemask, with caller lettering spelling retired “UNLV REBELS” in a chiseled mid‑1970s font. It also bears the same reddish decal depicting the Minuteman statue in Concord, Massachusetts, that was worn by the Rebels during the 1976 season. That squad finished 9‑3 and advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs under Glenn Carano. Carano, who remains UNLV’s all‑time winningest quarterback, was present for the unveiling and received a prototype from Erick Harper.
