In the opening crossover game of Division III football, the Valley Vikings (5‑2) defeated the Cimarron Cougars (4‑4) by a 42‑20 margin, earning a spot in the Superintendent’s Cup championship. Coach Rodney Harris praised his squad, saying, “The kids played hard. We had a great week of practice.”

Valley established control early, amassing 181 rushing yards in the first half and scoring three ground touchdowns. Senior DeCameron Wilson and junior Humberto Roldan each found the end zone, while dual‑threat quarterback Nah’lage Butler contributed 73 rushing yards and a touchdown before halftime, giving the Vikings a 22‑7 lead.

The second half saw Butler shift to the air, delivering a 62‑yard strike to junior Dashawn Johnson on the opening play, extending the lead to 30‑7. Johnson finished with four receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown. Butler closed the night with 92 rushing yards, two rushing scores, 196 passing yards and a passing touchdown, prompting Harris to note, “I believe we have the quarterback and receiver in the city.”

Valley now turns its attention to a rematch with Sunrise Mountain, the team that edged them 24‑22 in overtime earlier this season. Harris said, “We have great respect for them… It’s going to have to take the way we played tonight, to play with Sunrise Mountain again.”
