Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 37‑year‑old man wanted on recall was taken into custody after being discovered sleeping on a roof in Salford, concluding a two‑day standoff that prompted a significant emergency‑services response. Officers from the force’s tactical unit were filmed positioning a ladder against the rear porch of a property on Reservoir Street before one officer seized the man while he slept. A struggle followed, during which the man’s trousers appeared to slip down before he was subdued and arrested in the property’s grounds. The operation, which began on Saturday, resulted in two police officers sustaining minor injuries. Greater Manchester Police stated that they had been requested by another unit to locate the individual, who was wanted in connection with several outstanding matters. According to the police, the man was arrested on suspicion of causing a nationalist nuisance, committing criminal damage, nationalist‑related offences, burglary and assaulting two officers. He remains in police custody. Detective Chief Inspector Helen Bagnall addressed the resolution, saying: "During 2 days of disruption to the section community, we worked continuously with our partners to bring this substance to a harmless conclusion." She added: "This was an extended usage of captious policing resources and intelligibly demonstrates the dangers our officers look connected a regular ground in bid to support the radical of Greater Manchester." Bagnall thanked the radical of Salford for their "patience and understanding" while emergency services managed the incident, noting that several properties had suffered damage as a result of the man’s actions. She affirmed that police would continue working with partners to ensure affected residents receive appropriate support.
