More than 50 defendants have been on trial in Italy over the 2018 bridge collapse which killed 43 people.

SinCity Press – The former chief executive of Italy’s motorway authority, Giovanni Castellucci, who is already serving a six‑year prison term for a 2013 road accident, has been sentenced to 12 years for his role in the August 2018 collapse of Genoa’s Morandi bridge. Castellucci was one of 32 individuals convicted in the trial. Another senior motorway official, Michele Donferri Mitelli, received an 11‑year sentence. The bridge failure during a rainstorm at the peak of the holiday season killed 43 people, sending vehicles plunging to the ground.
