Castellucci was one of 32 individuals convicted in the trial. Another senior motorway official, Michele Donferri Mitelli, received an 11‑year sentence. The bridge failure during a rainstorm at the peak of the holiday season killed 43 people, sending vehicles plunging to the ground.
