A fan’s video from the Warriors‑Los Angeles Lakers preseason matchup at T‑Mobile Arena in Las Vegas captured a striking resemblance between Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and local resident Steve Gillis. The clip, first posted by Polymarket Hoops, has amassed over 10 million views on X and shows Gillis walking back to his floor seats just a few feet from Kerr on the sideline.
Gillis, an English teacher at Bishop Gorman High School, also coaches girls‑club volleyball and co‑founded the Summerlin Volleyball Academy. He coached women’s volleyball at Whitworth University from 1992 to 1994, helped Gonzaga Prep rise to the No. 1 ranking in Class 4A, and later served as an assistant coach for the University of Washington women’s program and the U.S. men’s volleyball team at the 1998 Olympics.
The video includes a caption from a fan noting, “There’s a Steve Kerr lookalike in the building tonight 😳😅,” and another post reading, “Steve Kerr was visibly confused seeing a complete doppelgänger of himself at a game 😭.” The footage also contains some profanity as Kerr appears to glance at Gillis on the sideline.
The viral moment comes as Las Vegas continues to pursue an NBA expansion franchise, with local investors and sports figures joining bid groups to potentially bring a new team to the city.
