1-year-old dies in crash in western Las Vegas neighborhood

A 1‑year‑old pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in a western Las Vegas neighborhood on Sunday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The victim, identified as a girl from Las Vegas, was hit at 6:42 p.m. on Colleen Drive, south of Churchill Street. Police said the driver of a Toyota Sequoia was moving the vehicle and traveling slowly northbound on Colleen when the child, who is known to the driver, “entered the way of the Toyota without the driver’s knowledge,” the department stated. As the Toyota continued forward, it struck the juvenile, knocking her to the ground. The pedestrian suffered “substantial injuries” and was transported to University Medical Center, where she later died. The Toyota’s operator showed no signs of impairment and fully cooperated with the investigation, authorities added. The crash marks the 71st traffic‑related fatality recorded within the department’s jurisdiction this year.
