The Air Force has posted a presolicitation notice for a billion-dollar campus at Nellis Air Force Base to develop the F-47, a sixth-generation stealth fighter jet. The project, estimated at just over $1 billion, would cover construction, design, security and other expenses on the east side of the base in the northeast Las Vegas Valley.
Plans call for aircraft hangars, specialized laboratories, simulator and training facilities, airfield pavements, maintenance facilities and personnel support facilities. Specific projects include a 1.1 million square foot aircraft apron with sunshades, a roughly 117,000 square foot operations and maintenance facility, a nearly 41,000 square foot simulator facility and a reprogramming lab.
Additional hangars and facilities for maintenance, training and dining are listed as potential subsequent work. Boeing describes the F-47 on its website as a sixth-generation stealth fighter "which will dominate the battlespace for decades to come."
The Air Force plans to grant an initial award by early February and start construction work into early March 2031. Spokespeople for the Air Force and Nellis Air Force Base did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
