Bishop Gorman rolled to a 50-7 home victory over Mater East on Thursday night at Fertitta Field in a game marked by heavy penalties and two stoppages when coaches and players converged at midfield following unsportsmanlike conduct calls against the Knights. The Gaels improved to 8-1 overall.

Freshman Trey Washington provided a pivotal swing just before halftime. After Mater East quarterback James Monaghan connected with Rajahn Butler on an 86-yard touchdown pass — the first touchdown a Nevada team has scored against Gorman in five games — Washington returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a score as the half expired, giving the Gaels a 35-7 lead.

Gorman struck early behind two first-quarter rushing touchdowns from Corey Hinton Jr. Mater East twice drove into Gaels territory in the first half but came away empty-handed, thwarted by an interception in the end zone and a drive stalled by three consecutive penalties and a sack.

Backup quarterback Brody Amina extended the lead with a 33-yard touchdown pass to UNLV commit Azavier McDaniel late in the second quarter. Coach Brent Browner praised his team's composure, saying, "Our kids were calm. They do what they're supposed to do. They practice hard. They work hard."

Gorman closes the regular season Nov. 6 at home against CIVICA Academy before a likely Open Division state semifinal against Faith Lutheran on Nov. 13. Mater East (7-3) will host a 4A Southern Region semifinal on Nov. 6 against either Cadence or SLAM! Nevada, with final seeding to be determined Sunday.
