Boys Athlete of the Week poll results

Andrew Duncan of Clark High School captured the Las Vegas Review‑Journal Boys Prep Athlete of the Week honor after securing 264 votes, or 58.9 percent of the 448 ballots tallied. The poll, which covered performances from Aug. 17‑22, closed at noon Thursday with the results released Friday. Ryder Dobbs of Foothill High School finished second with 157 votes, representing 35 percent of the total. Ace Amina of Bishop Gorman received 25 votes (5.6 percent), while Carlos Bautista of Equipo Academy earned just two votes, or 0.4 percent. Amina, a senior defensive back, passed for 212 yards and four touchdowns on Friday as Bishop Gorman topped top‑ranked St. John Bosco 38‑28. The victory pushed the Gaels to the number‑one position in the MaxPreps national rankings. Bautista, a sophomore forward, scored three goals in Equipo’s 8‑1 win over Founders Academy on Wednesday. Dobbs, also a senior defensive back, completed 13 of 18 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns to lead Foothill to a 42‑8 triumph over Basic on Friday. It marked his second straight standout effort in the rivalry; a year earlier he threw for 425 yards and eight touchdowns in the same matchup. Duncan, a senior distance runner, won the 5‑kilometer Red Rock Running Company Invitational at James Regional Sports Park on Saturday, clocking 15 minutes and 35 seconds. His time was 14 seconds faster than the runner‑up.
