Centennial’s football team beat Shadow Ridge on Friday night to earn the final spot in the Division I Superintendents Cup in-season tournament for the independent CCSD teams. The game was a back-and-forth contest where one mistake proved to be the difference. After Centennial took a 22-19 lead early in the fourth quarter, a Shadow Ridge snap sailed high over the head of quarterback Kaleb Kaeo. Centennial recovered the fumble and, three plays later, Blake Nadler threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Elliott Campbell, giving the Bulldogs a 10-point lead.
That proved to be the difference as Centennial held on for a 32-27 home victory. Centennial, ranked No. 7 in the Review-Journal’s Southern Nevada rankings, has clinched the West League’s No. 2 seed in the Division I Superintendents Cup and will play at East League champion and No. 1 seed Liberty next Friday. Shadow Ridge will play consolation games in its final two weeks against other Division I independent teams.
Centennial quarterback Blake Nadler threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns, while Elliott Campbell had 81 receiving yards and a touchdown. Shadow Ridge quarterback Kaleb Kaeo threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns. The Mustangs had one final opportunity to tie the score, but Kaeo was sacked by Centennial’s Kaiden Garrett with 1:30 remaining. The Bulldogs then ran out the clock.
