Valley High School clinched the final playoff spot in the Division III East League with a dominant 32-8 road victory over Del Sol in the season finale. The Vikings’ defense held Del Sol to just 149 total yards and did not allow a touchdown, while shutting down their triple-option attack by limiting them to 90 rushing yards.
Valley’s offense exploded in the second quarter, scoring 24 points after trailing 8-0 following a kickoff touchdown. Junior running back Humberto Roldan accounted for all three of Valley’s first-half touchdowns, including a 5-yard score, a 2-yard score, and another short-yardage run before halftime. The Vikings extended their lead in the third quarter with a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nah’Lage Butler to junior Dashawn Johnson.
Valley coach Rodney Harris praised the team’s focus and preparation, saying, “We took care of business this week. We came in focused, and this is the most locked in we’ve been all season,” and added, “The defense was phenomenal, the coaching was phenomenal, everyone on that side was phenomenal.” He noted that stopping Del Sol’s run game allowed Valley to control the outcome.
With the win, Valley (5-2) advances to face Cimarron next week, with the winner earning a spot in the Division III championship game. Harris said the result reflected the team’s offseason work: “We expected to be in this position… all the hard work we did over the summer, all the grinding and building, really paid off.”
