'Critically important' summit called on future of Scottish football

The Scottish Football Association is set to hold a "critically important" summit concerning the future of Scottish football. An email has been circulated to every Scottish Professional Football League club announcing the forum, which is scheduled to take place in St Andrews on 4 September. According to the email, which has been reviewed by BBC Scotland, the SFA will "discuss opportunities" related to homegrown talent and will hear from clubs that have "optimised their elite talent development model". The memo accompanying the invitation states that the objective is to concentrate on the "current reality" facing Scottish football. Discussions will also cover ways to improve prospects for homegrown Scottish players and to expand revenue streams for clubs. The meeting follows Scotland’s national team failing to advance from its group at the men’s World Cup, the nation’s first appearance at a finals tournament since 1998. The summit will be chaired by SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland.
