A 15-year-old girl died Oct. 24 from injuries sustained three days earlier when she was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in a marked crosswalk on Racetrack Road, according to the Henderson Police Department.
The crash occurred Oct. 21 around 3:08 p.m. about 500 feet north of Blue Lantern Drive. Police said the girl was crossing from the Saguaro Park Trail when vehicles in the adjacent lane slowed or stopped for her. A southbound 2012 Nissan Rogue passed those vehicles and entered the crosswalk without stopping, hitting the girl.
She was taken to University Medical Center, where she died despite lifesaving measures. The Clark County Coroner's Office will release her name.
Police identified the driver as Michael Stanton, 64. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian, and overtaking a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk. Authorities said impairment and speed were not factors, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
