The Las Vegas Lights FC honored Cashman Field with a 'Farewell to Cashman Night' during the final regular-season professional sporting event held at the venue on Saturday. Owner Jose Bautista confirmed to 8 News Now that a new location for the team has been found in Las Vegas, though he could not disclose details due to legal restrictions, saying the announcement would come soon and that the team is not leaving the area.
Fans expressed bittersweet feelings about the closure, with longtime resident Mike Farrell describing the field’s old-school charm and central location as a wholesome, affordable place to gather with friends. Neil Apfel recalled attending games since the early 2000s, including his first visit for a Las Vegas 51s game in 2004, and noted the field’s generational significance to his family.
Bautista called the moment super bittersweet, acknowledging Cashman Field’s history as a staple in Las Vegas and baseball, originally built in the 1940s and remodeled in the 1980s. The land, shared with the former Grant Sawyer Building, will be redeveloped by Lennar into 'The Foundry,' a housing project expected to include over 1,000 single-family homes and townhomes, following a groundbreaking ceremony with city and state officials.
