Golden Knights goalie suspended by Hockey Canada for code of conduct violation

Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Carter Hart has been suspended by Hockey Canada for a code‑of‑conduct violation after an appeal committee upheld the finding that five players connected to the 2018 sexual‑assault lawsuit breached the organization’s conduct policy. Hart will be ineligible to compete in international competition until Nov. 10, 2027. His teammates from Canada’s 2018 World Junior roster received parallel sanctions: Cal Foote is barred until Nov. 10, 2026; Dillon Dube until Nov. 10, 2028; and Michael McLeod until Nov. 10, 2030. Alex Formenton has been reinstated with immediate effect. The NHL has clarified that the suspended players may sign contracts beginning Oct. 15, 2025 and become eligible to play on Dec. 1. Hart was the first to put pen to paper, joining the Knights on a two‑year agreement dated Oct. 24. Should Hart—or any of the other four players—be under consideration for a national team, Hockey Canada will subject them to a screening process that incorporates a third‑party review of the 2018 investigation’s findings. Hart could resume involvement in Hockey Canada‑affiliated activities during the World Cup of Hockey scheduled for February 2028.
