Golden Knights star takes ‘a lot of pride’ in fast start to season

Golden Knights center Jack Eichel entered Wednesday leading the NHL with 10 points through the season's first four games after a four-point performance in a 6-2 win at Seattle on Tuesday. It marks the second consecutive year Eichel has been the first player in the league to reach double-digit points, joining Connor McDavid, Tyler Seguin and Wayne Gretzky as the only players to do so in the expansion era.

"I take a lot of pride in what I do in the summer and during training camp to try and prepare for the season and be ready to hit the ground running when the season starts," Eichel said. "Since I've been here with this team, we've had really good starts as a team." Eichel has averaged a point per game through the first month of each full season with Vegas, recording 19 points in 11 games last year and 16 in 11 games the year prior.

Tuesday's outing — two power-play assists, a short-handed setup for Mark Stone and a breakaway goal — was Eichel's eighth four-point game with the franchise, passing Stone for the most in team history. Ten different Knights have scored this season, and Eichel's eight assists have gone to four different teammates as Vegas averages 4.25 goals per game.

Coach Ryan Craig liked the way the group stayed with the game in Seattle, calling it their most complete effort of the young season aside from a seven-minute lapse against Anaheim earlier in the trip. "Continuing to build our game," Craig said. "I liked the way we stuck together."
