Las Vegas will stay dry this weekend after last weekend's Halloween deluge helped make October one of the wettest on record. The National Weather Service says no rain is expected Friday or Saturday, a contrast to the heavy downpours that dropped half an inch in 30 minutes in parts of the valley last Saturday.

Breezy north winds will gust between 15 and 25 mph in the valley Friday and Saturday. Stronger gusts up to 40 mph are forecast along the Colorado River Valley, where a wind advisory is in effect for Lake Mohave and Lake Havasu with two-to-three foot waves expected. Lake Mead will see lighter chop, according to weather service meteorologist Morgan Stessman.

Daytime highs in the Las Vegas Valley will reach the low 70s, about average for early November, with overnight lows in the 50s. Despite last weekend's record rainfall, the valley avoided major infrastructure damage, which officials attributed to long-term investments in flood control.

The Halloween weekend storms capped a wet October that included remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel and a rare hailstorm with golf ball-sized hail in northern and central Arizona. Southern Nevada also saw scattered thunderstorms earlier this week before the current dry pattern settled in.
