Las Vegas Lights FC drop last sports contest ever played at Cashman Field

Las Vegas Lights FC fell to Lexington FC 5-3 on Saturday night in the final sporting event held at Cashman Field. The match served as "Farewell to Cashman Night" as fans said goodbye to the 43-year-old facility, which is slated for demolition.

The stadium that stands today was completed in 1983 with roughly 10,000 fixed seats, though the original Cashman Field opened in 1947. It served as the home of the Triple-A Las Vegas Stars, later known as the Las Vegas 51s, until the team moved to Las Vegas Ballpark in 2019 and rebranded as the Aviators.

The venue hosted several notable professional teams over the decades. The Oakland Raiders played a preseason game against the Houston Oilers there in 1964, and the Oakland Athletics played their first six regular-season home games of the 1996 season at Cashman while the Oakland Coliseum underwent renovations.

The Lights of the United Soccer League had called Cashman Field home since 2018. The stadium's closure marks the end of an era for a facility that helped usher professional sports into Las Vegas, a city that now hosts NFL, NHL, and WNBA franchises and is set to welcome MLB in 2028 while pursuing an NBA expansion team.
