Miami and BYU would hold the top two seeds on the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket based on The Associated Press Top 25 released Sunday. UCLA would make its first-ever appearance in the field, and Tennessee would also join the bracket after Alabama and Texas dropped off due to their losses. Ohio State would move up to the No. 3 seed, while Notre Dame would drop to No. 4. Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi and Texas Tech would host first-round games.
The five highest-ranked conference champions — from the Power Four and one from the Group of Six — will qualify for the CFP, with the other seven spots filled by the next highest-ranked teams. Notre Dame would qualify as an independent if ranked in the top 12, and Boise State would represent the Pac-12 as the top Group of Six champion. The SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 would each have three teams on the bracket, while the ACC and Pac-12 would have one each.
First-round games are scheduled for Dec. 18 and 19, with quarterfinals on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1, semifinals on Jan. 14 and 15, and the championship game set for Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The projected matchups include No. 9 UCLA at No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 12 Boise State at No. 5 Georgia, No. 10 Utah at No. 7 Mississippi, and No. 11 Tennessee at No. 6 Indiana. The first three teams outside the bracket are Kentucky, Alabama and Houston.
