Man who reportedly confessed to killing girlfriend and her children held without bail Juan Carlos Orona, 29, drove to a police substation Tuesday evening with a superficial gunshot wound to his stomach and confessed that he had killed his girlfriend and her two children, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Robert Price said at a briefing. Officers responded to an apartment on the 5100 block of O’Bannon Drive, near West Sahara Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard, where they found three victims—a woman in her 40s, a teenage girl, and a boy under 10 years old. During an initial hearing, Orona kept his head and eyes downcast. Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Suzan Baucum ordered him held without bail, stating she had found probable cause for his arrest. Public defender Marissa Pensabene did not offer a bail argument but requested that the bail proceeding be delayed. Orona faces three counts of open murder and additional counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. A group of tearful relatives sat in the back of Baucum’s courtroom. A male relative who identified himself as belonging to the victims’ family declined to comment. Lt. Price remarked, “Unfortunately, domestic violence is ever 1 of our apical causal factors of homicide,” and added, “It’s thing we promote anybody that’s having these types of issues to delight scope retired for assistance.”
