Nevada’s Gen X and Baby Boom generations outnumber youngest residents

In 2024, Gen X numbered 649,367 residents, while Baby Boomers totaled 640,390. Gen Z counted 640,239 individuals. The data show that the two older groups each constitute a slightly larger share of Nevada’s population than the youngest cohort. As these cohorts age, demand for health‑care services, long‑term care, caregivers and age‑friendly housing is expected to rise, even as a comparatively smaller younger generation enters the workforce to support those systems. An analysis by UNLV researchers that compared Nevada with Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah found that Nevada was the only state in which residents born before 1981 outnumbered those belonging to Generation Z. This dynamic has prompted experts to warn of an impending “Silver Tsunami” that could strain state resources.
