Phillies exec turns downs A’s offer to run baseball operations: Report

Sam Fuld, president of business operations for the Philadelphia Phillies, has turned down the Athletics' offer to become the club's president of baseball operations, according to multiple media reports. Fuld also withdrew from consideration for the role, which became available after David Forst agreed to part ways with the team on August 7, ending his 27-year tenure as general manager.

The Athletics are now focusing on Boston Red Sox assistant general manager Taylor Smith as their leading candidate to oversee baseball operations. Fuld, a former MLB player who finished his playing career with the Athletics, joined the Phillies' front office in 2017 and recently earned an MBA from the Wharton School.

The Athletics are preparing to move to Las Vegas in 2028, where a new ballpark is under construction on the Strip. The stadium, designed for year-round concerts and events, has seen recent progress with the completion of its third steel truss arch, marking the tallest point of the $2.1 billion project. Construction has been ongoing since June 2025, with nearly $700 million in work completed to date.
