Welcome to Thursday Night Lights.

The opening round of Las Vegas high school football playoffs kicks off tonight — a day early due to Nevada Day falling on the last Friday of October. With the state holiday moving the schedule up, the quest for a championship begins under Thursday’s lights.

After plenty of drama in finalizing the Class 5A bracket, the eight-team field takes its first step toward representing Southern Nevada in the state championship game against a northern opponent from Reno.

Tonight’s 5A matchups promise to deliver.

Green Valley travels to Desert Pines, while Desert Oasis hosts Faith Lutheran in rematches of regular-season battles that went down to the wire in the fourth quarter.
