PWHL Las Vegas opens 1st season at home against Hilary Knight, Detroit

PWHL Las Vegas will open its inaugural season with a home game against PWHL Detroit at T‑Mobile Arena on Dec. 6, marking the league’s fourth matchup of the month. The announcement came as the regular‑season schedule prepares to be released on Friday. The Dec. 6 contest caps a busy hockey slate at T‑Mobile Arena, as the Vegas Golden Knights are slated to meet the Winnipeg Jets the night before, on Dec. 5. League‑wide training camps began Nov. 18. Las Vegas is scheduled to scrimmage the Minnesota Frost on Nov. 22 and the Vancouver Goldeneyes on Nov. 24. Head coach Kim Weiss will make her bench debut in the home opener. Weiss served the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League. The game also features the league debut of Tessa Janecke, the No. 3 overall selection in this year’s PWHL Draft. Las Vegas and Detroit executed one of the offseason’s marquee trades, with Las Vegas acquiring the No. 3 pick used on Janecke from Detroit in exchange for the signing rights to forward Hilary Knight. Knight, a two‑time Olympic gold‑medalist, signed a one‑year contract with Las Vegas during the expansion process but elected not to continue her career in the city. In addition to the Janecke selection, Las Vegas used another top‑five pick, taking Wisconsin forward Lacey Eden with the fifth overall choice.
