Three of the Raiders’ most prominent free agents including a pair of team captains wound up leaving for the New England Patriots this offseason.
The silver and black won’t have to wait long to reunite with the likes of linebacker Robert Spillane, strong safety Marcus Epps and edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson on the field. Las Vegas will travel to New England for its Week 1 game with a 10 a.m. kickoff on Sunday Sept. 7.
It’s the fifth time in six years since the Raiders’ franchise moved to Las Vegas that it will start the season away from Allegiant Stadium. Unlike two of the past three years, however, the Raiders will make their home debut on Week 2 instead of having back-to-back road games.
The AFC West divisional slate starts with the nightcap of Monday Night Football double-header as Las Vegas hosts the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Raiders went winless against the division last year in coach Antonio Pierce’s lone full-time season at the helm. That must change under new coach Pete Carroll, who's promised a meaningul step forward immediately with the Raiders coming off a 4-13 season.
The new coaching staff will look to win two of the AFC West games in national standalone spots as the Raiders’ Week 10 game at the Denver Broncos is slated for Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football.
Las Vegas has one other primetime game when it hosts the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 17 for Monday Night Football. It could always shift into more — or lose one — with the NFL’s new, aggressive flex-scheduling protocols, but being in three primetime games is already one more than a year ago.
The Raiders will be looking to make the playoffs for only second time since moving to Las Vegas but it won’t be easy with six of eight road games against teams that advanced to the postseason last year. That includes a Week 15 date at the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
Las Vegas’ pair of annual contests against the rival Kansas City Chiefs, whom the Eagles beat in last year’s championship, fall on Week 7 and Week 18.
