Maxx Crosby’s relationship with Eastern Michigan reached a new level on Monday.

The former EMU standout and Las Vegas Raiders star was named the assistant general manager of the EMU football program, the school announced.

“There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University,” Crosby said in a press release. “It truly is an honor for me to not only be named the Assistant GM of the EMU, but together with my wife Rachel, make another donation aimed at creating opportunities for other athletes to be impacted by the EMU program, community, students and alumni.”

Crosby is the first active NFL player to hold this position.

His duties as assistant GM will include assisting the program with evaluating high school and transfer portal prospects, while helping manage the team’s NIL/revenue share budget, the press release said.

Crosby will also assist the Athletic Director with fundraising, alumni relations, and student-athlete support, the press release stated.

“Maxx Crosby’s return to EMU in this leadership role is a transformative moment for our football program,” said Scott Wetherbee, EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics. “...With him on board, we’re building a better football program and a stronger future for EMU Athletics.”

Crosby donated $1 million to EMU’s athletics department in 2023, and the school renamed its football field at Rynearson Stadium to Crosby Field in 2024.

Through six NFL seasons, Crosby has developed into one of the league’s most dominant players as he has amassed 59.5 career sacks to go along with being a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler.

The 27-year-old Lapeer native signed a three-year, $106.5 million extension with $91.5 million guaranteed and a base salary $35.5 million per year in March, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

He starred at EMU from 2015-2018, where he earned first-team All-MAC honors twice before being drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
