UNLV offensive lineman Tiger Shanks made program history when he was selected fifth overall by the Montreal Alouettes in Tuesday's Canadian Football League draft, becoming the highest-drafted Rebel in CFL history.
Shanks, who was born in Vancouver, is the sixth Rebel to be selected in the CFL draft and the first since offensive lineman Brett Boyko and running back Shaquille Murray-Lawrence were tabbed in 2015.
Boyko was previously the program’s highest CFL selection when he was picked in the 14th overall.
Shanks tied the school record by starting 51 games in his career, primarily at right tackle. He became the first offensive lineman in school history to twice earn first-team all-conference honors.
Wide receiver Ricky White III was drafted last week in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by Seattle.
