Lumo trains running between London Euston and Stirling have been operating without usable toilets on services that last more than five‑and‑a‑half hours. The West Coast Main Line route, spanning 417 miles (671 km), is operated by Lumo, a subsidiary of FirstGroup.
On Saturday the company warned of a “fault” affecting the toilet facilities on a service from Stirling to Crewe. Since then, some services have been scheduled to stop longer at stations such as Preston to allow passengers to disembark and use platform toilets.
A Lumo spokesperson said, “We have been experiencing some issues with the reliability of some of our toilet facilities onboard our West Coast services.” The spokesperson added that Lumo is working closely with Alstom, the infrastructure firm that refurbished the carriages used by Lumo, to “rectify the issue”.
The 06:11 departure from London Euston on Friday, which was affected, ran with a 58‑minute delay and terminated at Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. Passengers on that service were informed that their tickets would be accepted on ScotRail alternatives.
