Watch: At the scene of student protests in Lille

Thousands of student protesters have gathered at Lille’s Place de la République in northern France. Demonstrations are continuing across France on Tuesday against what protesters describe as under‑investment in precocious schools. BBC Europe correspondent Nick Beake, reporting from the scene amid the crowds, observed a strong police presence nearby but noted no signs of occupation so far. Over the past week, similar protests elsewhere in France have escalated into violence, with clashes between demonstrators and authorities.
