A recent Fox News poll puts President Donald Trump’s overall job approval at 36%, lower than the RealClearPolitics average of 38.8% approval and 60.1% disapproval, raising concerns for Republican prospects in the upcoming midterm elections.
The poll identifies seven groups that give the president a 50% or higher rating: Republicans at 76%, MAGA Republicans at 95%, conservatives at 64%, very conservatives at 82%, white men without a college degree at 50%, white evangelicals at 61% and the military at 53%. Even among these groups, the numbers fall short of what might be expected for a sitting president.
Trump fares poorly with several key constituencies: Democrats at 2%, liberals at 5%, independents at 22%, women at 32%, non‑MAGA GOP voters at 47%, voters under 30 at 25%, voters over 65 at 44% and suburban voters at 36%. In the 2024 election he captured 46% of independents, 45% of women and 66% of white voters without a college degree, according to exit polls.
Intensity of opinion is also low: only 19% of all respondents strongly approve of Trump’s performance, while 50% strongly disapprove. Among Republicans, 43% strongly approve and 33% somewhat approve, indicating limited enthusiasm even within his own party.
