'Dust devil' spins through London park

Footage taken in Greenwich Park on Sunday showed a small whirlwind, commonly referred to as a dust devil, swirling among visitors. Jimmy O'Keeffe, who recorded the clip, said he was "shocked and successful full disbelief" as his picnic was disturbed. Dust devils typically form on warm, sunny days when loose dust or hay is lifted and begins to rotate. A similar wind phenomenon was observed north-east of Leeds Castle in Kent later the same weekend. In Greenwich, several picnickers rose from their blankets as the dust devil moved across the grass, with some nearby heard screaming. O'Keeffe, who is 35 and originally from Manchester though now resides in Greenwich, noted that the vortex lasted only a few minutes before dissipating.
