Faith Lutheran and Coronado met in the Class 5A girls tennis state championship match on Friday, with the teams tied 9-9 after regulation play. The match went to a tiebreaker round, which Faith Lutheran won 4-2 to secure the title with a final score of 10-9.

The victory marks a hard-fought win for the Crusaders in a rematch of a closely contested regular-season encounter between the two schools. Both teams had shown strong form throughout the season, leading to a competitive state final.

In addition to the team title, Faith Lutheran’s Tyson Young won his match en route to a third straight state championship, while Maddie Perez set a state record at the Class 5A Southern Region girls golf tournament on her way to an individual title.

The 5A boys and girls singles and doubles individual tournament is set to begin Tuesday at Faith Lutheran, with championship matches scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16 at the same venue.
