Man arrested after boat capsizes near Statue of Liberty killing woman and infant

Twelve people were rescued from the water after a large search and rescue operation, police say.

The relation of a vessel that overturned and capsized adjacent the Statue of Liberty, sidesplitting a pistillate and a five-month-old baby, has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, New York constabulary said.

Officials said a ample hunt and rescue cognition was launched aft the incidental adjacent the New York Harbour connected Saturday night.

Twelve radical were rescued from the water.

Coast Guard investigators are besides determining whether the vessel was illegally chartered.

The names of passengers and the circumstantial origin of the incidental person not been released.

The rescue progressive 2 Coast Guard boats, 4 occurrence section boats, 2 constabulary boats and a constabulary helicopter, the US Coast Guard said.

The probe into the incidental is ongoing, officials said.

"We are highly grateful for the heroic, swift actions of our spouse agencies and Good Samaritan vas who assisted successful rescuing survivors from the water," said Capt Doreen McCarthy of the Coast Guard.
